1. Artificial Intelligence (AI) Limitations

The App utilizes third-party artificial intelligence technology (specifically Google’s Gemini API) to analyze book content, identify potential themes, assign match scores, and generate recommendations based on user-defined criteria.

You acknowledge and agree that:

  • AI Can Make Mistakes: AI models are prone to errors, often referred to as "hallucinations." The App may occasionally generate inaccurate summaries, miss highly sensitive material, incorrectly identify themes, or recommend books that do not actually exist.

  • Subjective Interpretation: The AI evaluates text based on trained data patterns. Its interpretation of "conservative," "Christian," "mature," or "inappropriate" may not perfectly align with your personal, family, or denominational standards.

  • No Guarantee of Accuracy: We make no representations or warranties regarding the accuracy, reliability, completeness, or timeliness of the AI-generated analyses or recommendations provided by the App.

 

2. Parental Responsibility

The Conservative Reading Guide is intended to be a supplementary tool to aid parents, guardians, and adult readers in vetting reading material. It is not a substitute for personal parental review.

The ultimate responsibility for determining whether a book, author, or piece of media is appropriate for a specific child or reader rests entirely with the parent or guardian. We strongly encourage users to personally review a book, consult multiple sources, or read community reviews before allowing a child to read it.

 

3. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall the creators, developers, or owners of the Conservative Reading Guide be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to emotional distress or exposure to objectionable content, arising out of or in any way connected with your use of the App or reliance on its generated content.

This Privacy Policy describes how your information is collected, used, and handled when you use the Conservative Reading Guide mobile application (the "App").

 

By downloading or using the App, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy.

 

1. Information We Collect and How We Use It

 

Our primary goal is to provide a safe, private tool for parents and readers. To function, the App processes certain data, but we do not require you to create an online account, and we do not store your personal data on our servers.

 

A. Locally Stored Data (User Profiles & Library)

When you create profiles (including names, ages, maturity levels, and reading filters) or save books to your "Tracker," this information is saved locally on your device using local device storage. We do not transmit, collect, or store this profile data on external databases or servers.

 

B. Camera and Image Data

The App requests access to your device's camera to allow you to scan book covers, barcodes, and ISBNs.

  • How it is used: If you choose to use the scanning feature, the image is temporarily captured and sent securely to our third-party AI provider (Google Generative AI) to identify the book and provide an analysis.

  • Storage: We do not record, save, or share these images. They are discarded immediately after the AI processes the scan.

 

C. Artificial Intelligence (AI) Processing

To generate book recommendations and analyze reading materials, the App communicates with Google's Gemini API.

  • When you request an analysis or a curated list, the App sends your search queries, scanned images, and the active profile's filter criteria (such as age, maturity level, and themes to avoid) to the AI to generate a response.

  • We do not send personally identifiable information (such as your full name, email, or exact location) to the AI.

 

 

2. Third-Party Services

The App relies on third-party services that may collect information used to identify you, governed by their own privacy policies. We use:

  • Google Play Services: For app delivery and basic Android functionality.

  • Google Generative AI (Gemini): For processing text and image queries to return book data.

3. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. Because your profile and library data is stored locally on your device, we do not even have access to it to share.

 

 

4. Children's Privacy

The Conservative Reading Guide is a tool designed for parents and adults to manage and vet reading materials for their families.

While parents may input a child's first name, age, and reading preferences into the App to create a profile, this information is stored locally on the parent's device. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under the age of 13 over the internet. If you believe your child has provided us with personal information online, please contact us, and we will take immediate steps to delete such information.

 

 

5. Security and Data Deletion

Because your data (profiles, saved books, custom filters) is stored locally on your device, you maintain full control over it. You can delete all your data at any time by:

  1. Deleting individual profiles within the App's "Profiles" tab.

  2. Clearing the App's storage/cache in your device's Settings.

  3. Uninstalling the App from your device.

 

 

6. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date at the top. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
